SLIDE 1
In the Bible, John writes about a visit Jesus had from a guy called Nicodemus.

Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a very religious man. This was going to be a very special day for Nicodemus because later, during the night, he was going to creep out and make a secret visit to talk to Jesus.

Nicodemus would usually dress like these two pharisees either side of him. They had special robes and scarves. Everyone knew who they were but since they wouldn’t agree with Nicodemus going to speak with Jesus, he had to be careful not to be seen by them.

When it was dark, Nicodemus slipped out into the street, he was afraid of being spotted, so he kept looking this way and that.

The nearer he got to his destination the more careful he was. He jumped, as he heard a door open nearby and close again but he wasn’t seen by anyone. A dog barked ruff, ruff. O dear, had he been seen this time? Nicodemus froze for a moment. The barking died away. He was nearly there, just a few houses to go. He finally arrived and knocked on the door. It opened and in he went. Nicodemus had come to speak with Jesus

He had been too frightened to come in the day when he might be seen, but now tucked away where no one could see them, Nicodemus and Jesus had a really good chat.. There was so much he wanted to ask Jesus. Nicodemus had heard about Jesus but never really spoken to him before.
Now they talked about the world. Good things, bad things, right and wrong. They talked about how the wrong things that people do spoils their lives, just like the picture got messed up earlier in our drama.

Then Jesus told Nicodemus something quite amazing. Jesus said that He had come to help the whole world get put right. Jesus told Nicodemus that the wrong things that people had done could be forgiven and they could have a new start. a new beginning.
At first Nicodemus didn’t get this, a new beginning I can become a baby again and start all over again he thought .

Jesus explained that this new beginning was something that happened on the inside, not on the outside. It was a change of heart.

Jesus had come into the world to show people how to live, so that they could be forgiven and start a fresh. Everyone can have a new beginning no matter what they have done.

The time came for Nicodemus to leave. He’d got a few things to think over and was so glad he’d gone to see Jesus.

Nicodemus went home with a lot to think about. Jesus had showed Nicodemus that God’s love is forgiving.

In life, we all make mistakes and mess things up from time to time. We need God’s power within us to live the life He has planned for us. Jesus came so that everyone can have His forgiveness and a new fresh start in life. How awesome is that!
