Hope

Props needed - good solid chair, a deck chair, large star shape.

Who can you depend on? Brother, sister, friend? Who can you look to for Help? Mum, dad, carer?

Jesus wants you to put your trust in Him too.

Here’s a chair, before I sit on it, I don’t need to walk around it, check it out, think over whether it will hold my weight, or test it with my hands. Here’s another chair (old deck chair) now I tell you kids I gotta watch this one, it’s seen better days, it is not strong and the other week I sat on one like this and it collapsed, I ended up on the floor. Now this chair, I can put my hope in because I know that whatever I do today, wherever I go I can come back to this chair and it will look after me when I sit on it. In the same way I can put my HOPE in God. I can depend on Him too!

Along time ago a man wrote these words, they are still true for us today.

“Happy are those whose HOPE is in the Lord their God” Psalm 146

The wise men saw the star – a symbol of HOPE. They were excited, they expected something special to happen and it did. The star was like a signpost it pointed to the greatest HOPE the world has ever known – JESUS. The star pointed to Jesus and the wise men followed it. God’s own Son came to earth at Christmastime to bring HOPE to the whole world and that includes you and me.

So kids when you think of the star at Christmas remember it is pointing to Jesus, The HOPE of the world.
